Fresenius continues reducing complexity and optimizing utilization in the production network of its Operating Company Fresenius Kabi in line with its Vision 2026 and #FutureFresenius: Today, Fresenius Kabi and EMS have signed an agreement to transfer the ownership of Fresenius Kabi's production site in Anápolis, Brazil, to EMS. The multinational pharmaceutical company has a strong presence in Latin America and will take over the generic injectables production plant, the development center, and the warehouse as well as full staff and will continue production.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including merger approval.

The Fresenius healthcare group is continuously expanding its range of innovative products. A new laboratory and office building with a technical center called KabiLab D20 is being built at Daimlerstrasse 20 on the Fresenius campus in Bad Homburg. It will feature laboratories, a total of 90 desk-sharing workstations, meeting rooms, and storage rooms on an area totaling around 5,000 m². The move to the new building is planned for mid-2026. 

Once completed, around 70 employees from the Fresenius Kabi Business Unit Nutrition currently working in Bad Homburg and Friedberg will relocate to the new building. Among others, they are working on further development of the Fresubin enteral nutrition product portfolio as well as on a special device for producing patient-specific parenteral nutrition. Patients who are unable to meet their nutritional needs through their normal diet need enteral nutrition such as Fresubin. Parenteral nutrition is a form of artificial nutrition that is administered intravenously rather than via the gastrointestinal tract. Fresenius is the world’s leading provider in this field. With the rise in metabolic disorders and chronic diseases such as diabetes, the global demand for special clinical nutrition is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.

The KabiLab is being built with sustainability in mind: Parts of the existing building structure and technical infrastructure are being used, which will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions compared to a new building. In future, photovoltaic systems will supply green electricity, an efficient heat pump will be used to heat the rooms, and rainwater will be stored to water the new green spaces.

Fresenius currently employs around 2,100 people in Bad Homburg and a further 300 in neighboring Oberursel, who will also move to the campus in Bad Homburg by the middle of the year.

Fresenius is continuing to develop its Care Provision Platform, of which Helios Germany is a core part: with the recently completed construction of Helios HSK’s new building in Wiesbaden, the company has opened one of Germany's most modern hospitals. Helios HSK is the core of the Wiesbaden-Taunus hospital cluster and is home to 25 specialist clinics and five institutes. At a launch ceremony today, around 400 guests from the worlds of politics, business and medicine paid tribute to the new building. In addition to the Prime Minister of the State of Hesse, Boris Rhein, dignitaries included the Hessian Minister of Health Diana Stolz, and Wiesbaden's Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende.

Under challenging conditions, they have impressively demonstrated that patients are in the best of hands here. Investment in patient-centered care and state-of-the-art equipment
 

At Helios HSK, optimal treatment paths, the latest therapies and equipment with state-of-the-art medical technology enable cutting-edge medicine at a new level of treatment. Patients are welcomed into a hospital designed entirely around their needs from the ground up. Employees benefit from an attractive, state-of-the-art work environment that enables them to focus even more on patient care.

Among other things, Helios HSK is certified as an oncology center with ten certified organ centers and as a supra-regional trauma center. Around 170,000 patients per year can be treated in the seven-storey building with around 900 beds and around 3,000 employees. 

The clinic's highlights include 22 surgery rooms, most of which have natural daylight, two intensive care units, a helicopter roof landing pad, a special stroke ward and an emergency room with access to cutting-edge technology. These include a special spectral computer tomograph supported by Artificial Intelligence. Only a few meters separate the arrival hall for ambulances from the shock room and other life-saving areas. 

An entire wing of the hospital also houses a modern parent-child center with six delivery rooms, an intensive care unit for premature babies, and its own emergency surgery room. Short distances here too: everything is on one level and all experts for the care of the youngest children work together within easy reach.

The new Helios HSK building marks Fresenius' largest hospital investment project to date. The company financed the majority of the over 300 million euro investment from its own funds, with the state of Hesse contributing around 68 million euros.

The internationally renowned Fresenius Helios heart center in Leipzig is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. Representatives from the political sphere, research community, and hospital have commended the heart center and its history of cutting-edge medicine at the Helios hospital in Leipzig. Further guests beside the Saxon Minister-President included Leipzig’s Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung and the Rector of Leipzig University, Professor Eva Inés Obergfell.

Cutting-edge medicine making history

The Leipzig Heart Center has achieved countless milestones over the past 30 years: Doctors and nurses have used state-of-the-art technology to so far perform over 100,000 heart operations, more than 270,000 cardiac catheterizations, and 100,000 ablations, helping to improve the lives of around 500,000 patients. Particularly worthy of mention here are the advances in minimally-invasive heart surgery, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology, which have made the Leipzig Heart Center a pioneer in its field.

The manifold scientific and clinical achievements mean that Leipzig Heart Center is a leader in many specialist areas – it has the world’s largest heart valve clinic, for example. The cardiology and cardiac surgery departments are among the largest specialist university departments in Germany. The department of pediatric cardiology is the only heart center specifically for children in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. Today, more than 1,450 employees from 50 nations and countless specialized medical fields devote themselves to heart health here.

Helios an authority on cardiac medicine in Germany

As a core component of the Fresenius Care Provision Platform, Helios stands for excellence and high-quality medical outcomes along the entire patient journey. Fresenius Helios operates six heart centers in Germany, namely in Karlsruhe, Krefeld, Leipzig, Siegburg, Schwerin, and Wuppertal. Fresenius continues streamlining the production network of its Operating Company Fresenius Kabi in line with its Vision 2026 and #FutureFresenius: Today, Fresenius Kabi transferred the ownership of its subsidiary Laboratorio Sanderson S.A., Chile, to Medifarma, a multinational pharmaceutical company from Peru with a strong presence in Latin America. This divestment includes the IV Laboratorio Sanderson plant in Santiago de Chile. Medifarma will continue the manufacturing of the existing portfolio of products in Chile. Fresenius Kabi remains committed to the Chilean as well as South American markets and will continue its presence accordingly. This is another step to reduce complexity and optimize utilization in Fresenius Kabi’s global manufacturing network.

The hospital system of the future already exists today: On Tuesday, the German Federal Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach and the Parliamentary State Secretary for East Germany and Minister of State Carsten Schneider visited the Helios Hospital Erfurt. Together with three other Helios hospitals, it forms part of the Central Thuringia Helios cluster. Accompanied by Robert Möller, who is the CEO of Helios and a Fresenius Management Board member, the health minister learned about the networking between Helios hospitals and the specialization based on the cluster principle. The minister also took the opportunity to speak directly with employees.

Helios sets focus areas for its clusters comprising several closely linked hospitals that it has set up all across Germany. These clusters enable the provision of a very broad range of medical services, which in turn leads to a measurably higher quality of treatment for patients.

Medical care within the cluster

As a maximum care provider, the Helios Hospital Erfurt is the largest hospital in the region. It forms the core of the Central Thuringia Helios cluster. Together with three other Helios hospitals in the surrounding area, namely the specialist orthopedic clinic in Bleicherode, the hospital for specialized care in Gotha, and the hospital for basic and standard care in Blankenhain, the cluster is an example of specialization and networking in the hospital sector. Around 300,000 people are treated within the cluster every year. The specialized medical care is provided by over 3,500 employees. Helios already has 25 strong clusters. Within these, complex treatments are pooled at centers of excellence and cross-site medical departments are formed.

Insights into daily practice

The practical work at the hospitals in the Central Thuringia Helios cluster was presented to the delegation and the close networking between sites and the specialization through the establishment of centers for different specialist areas and disciplines were also demonstrated. During his tour, the health minister experienced telemedical cooperation in a live case discussion and training for complex emergencies and in the use of state-of-the-art robotics for knee surgery in the simulation and emergency academy. The medical training program offered in Erfurt was also presented. Helios Hospital Erfurt has been a university campus of the Health and Medical University since 2022 and plays a key role in the medical training offered in Erfurt. The health minister also expressed his particular appreciation for the staff from various disciplines during personal discussions.
 

Fresenius, via its operating company Fresenius Kabi, announced today the immediate availability of its biosimilar Tyenne® (tocilizumab-aazg) in a subcutaneous formulation in the U.S, continuing its (Bio)Pharma momentum.
With this launch Fresenius is increasing access to affordable and cost-effective treatment options for use in the treatment of chronic autoimmune diseases. This is another important milestone in accelerating the company’s strong (Bio)Pharma momentum, a substantial cornerstone of #FutureFresenius. Tyenne®, the company’s third biosimilar in the U.S., was launched in an intravenous (IV) formulation in April this year.

Fresenius Kabi is further executing on its Vision 2026 strategy: The company and the Prange Group today have signed an agreement to transfer the ownership of Fresenius Kabi's plant in Halden, Norway, to HP Halden Pharma AS, a company of the Prange Group. The Prange Group, together with its affiliate Adragos Pharma, take over the plant with equipment as well as full staff and will continue the manufacturing of Fresenius Kabi’s products. This is another step to reduce complexity and optimize utilization in its global manufacturing network.

Fresenius makes available €500.000 for immediate release to the German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz e.V.) as assistance for disaster relief efforts to people affected by the recent earthquake in Morocco and the flooding in Libya. This cash donation will support direct disaster relief efforts on site. In addition, Fresenius remains committed to providing assistance with much needed medical products from its own product portfolio in crisis situations. 

The Fresenius Group expresses its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and individuals affected by the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

As first reaction after the catastrophic event, the company fully focused on connecting with its patients in the region.
